Rogers-Herr was one of the first schools in North Carolina to adopt the Accelerated School Model, an instructional style in which every child is considered gifted, and active discovery and learning are promoted. 

Neighborhood Partnership programs include:

• MUSCLE program to enhance math skills through the study of science
• Arts programs
• School Days, in which students with college potential but few role models spend a day on the Duke Campus
• BOOST program for encouraging underrepresented minority students to pursue science
